How Far Would You Go To Test Yourself?
In January 2024, Australian ultrarunner and pain researcher Donna Urquhart did something no-one had done before her. She ran 1,402 kilometres in Antarctica in 28 days, setting a world record for the longest run in a polar region, while battling temperatures as low as –20°C and winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour.
Donna’s extraordinary journey and what she learned has been captured in her book, Life Without Limits. She will take part in a special Dandenong Ranges Literary Festival In Conversation event with co-author Charisse Ede on Saturday, October 10.
Part extraordinary adventure story,
part exploration of pain, resilience and human potential

Life Without Limits draws on Donna’s experience not only as an ultra-runner, but as a pain researcher fascinated by what happens when we reach the edges of what we think is possible.
What can running 1,402 kilometres through Antarctica possibly teach the rest of us about getting through the difficult, uncomfortable and sometimes painful parts of ordinary life?
Quite a lot, as it turns out.
Donna will share what her journey taught her about handling pain and adversity, challenging the boundaries we place around ourselves and discovering just how much more we may be capable of than we think.
